Hi Westie,

How’s everyone doing? Good to see we avoided the worst of the cyclone. Other parts of the country were hit much harder, but things here stayed pretty manageable. Most of the affected roads have already been cleared as well.

It’s the last week of the school holidays, so back to normal routines soon. There are a few weekend markets to check out, and some events have been pushed into this week due to the weather.

Let’s get into it.

In today’s edition:

Muriwai Village Green getting a big upgrade 🛹

Muriwai’s Village Green is being redeveloped with $943K funding into a more modern play space for locals, with construction starting mid-April.

  • Works start 15 April 2026 (about 6 months build time)

  • New tennis courts + 3-on-3 basketball court, dedicated wheel play area with flow bowl for scooters/skaters/bikers, more seating, fencing, shade, and upgraded markings

  • Old facilities being replaced as they’ve worn out

  • Strong community backing (92%+ support from submissions)

Price Point Opens in Westgate

Price Point just opened up at Westgate last April 10 where the Torpedo7 used to be. It’s basically a cheap-as one-stop shop for all your everyday bits.

“We’re bringing together the best of Kmart, The Warehouse, and Panda Mart, all in one place “

Another solid budget spot in the West — handy if you’re trying to save a few bucks but still need the basics.

Auckland Council and the Government Deal Signed

Auckland Council and the Government have signed a landmark long-term deal to work together on growth, infrastructure, and planning — aiming to fix the usual disconnect and unlock Auckland’s potential.

  • 10-year partnership between Govt + Council

  • Focus on transport, housing, infrastructure, jobs

  • North-West Rapid Transit included (big for West Auckland)

  • Major projects progressing: CRL, Eastern Busway, Central Interceptor

  • Push for smarter housing growth near existing infrastructure

  • Plans to boost events, tourism, and investment

  • New funding tools (targeted rates, possible bed tax being explored)

It means long-term play, not instant fixes. If it delivers, West Auckland could see better transport and planning — but it all comes down to whether these projects actually get built.
